Brief
The following information and images are the processes used to create my final stencil design.
These images show my process in designing the silhouette of the monkey to make the stencil.
These screen grabs show my experiments with the parts of the monkey that had to be reconstructed
These are all the letters that I used in my text for my stencil, the image shows how I designed the gap in the letters for the laser cutter to cut the letter forms.
This image shows the number of experimentation I conducted with the monkey and text on printed paper. I decided to do a print test to see if the balance was right and to decide which layout I would want to produce. I selected image 4 because it had good white space and the detail of the monkey could be transferred to paper with spray paint.
I've made adjustments to the monkey for the form to be more solid and I've checked to see if the lines were clean for the laser cuter.
After some thinking the design looked bland and realised that without the text the image had no connection to design. I've used a repeat of vector lines to create some shading to the monkey, giving the overall image a more impact-full feeling of being closer connected to the meaning of the text 'designer see, designer do'.
These are the outline version of the stencil design, the final stencil and the spray painted paper.
I have decided to try to recreate the spray painted page, I've used pins to ensure that the delicate pieces don't move when sprayed.
The final poster outcome, I like the fact that the lines are much cleaner even if there are holes in places on the poster.
Poster pinned on a pin board.
